Hair loss
PRP for hair loss
Your own blood, spun, concentrated, and returned to the scalp where it's most needed.
What it is
Platelet-Rich Plasma uses a small sample of your own blood, which we spin in a clinical centrifuge to separate out the platelet-rich layer. Those concentrated platelets contain growth factors that, when injected into the scalp, can slow thinning, extend the active growth phase of follicles, and — for some clients — encourage visible regrowth around areas that have started to recede.
It is not a magic restorer of lost density. It works best as part of a longer plan — typically four to six sessions across the first few months, then maintenance every 6 to 9 months. It works best for clients who still have living follicles in the area; for advanced loss, we will have an honest conversation about whether other routes are more appropriate.
What it treats
- Early androgenic (male and female pattern) hair thinning
- Diffuse thinning across the crown or hairline
- Post-pregnancy hair shedding (telogen effluvium)
- Stress-related or seasonal shedding
- Support around a hair-transplant — improving graft survival and existing density
How it works
- 1 A small blood sample is taken from your arm (around 20 ml) — the same as a routine blood test.
- 2 The sample is processed in a centrifuge for 8–10 minutes, isolating the platelet-rich plasma layer.
- 3 Topical numbing is applied to the scalp. Once numb, the PRP is injected at multiple points across the treatment area using a fine needle.
- 4 The whole appointment takes around 45–60 minutes including processing time.
- 5 A starting course is typically four sessions, four weeks apart. We then assess together and plan maintenance every 6 to 9 months.
What to expect
Appointment time
45–60 minutes including blood draw and processing
Downtime
Mild scalp tenderness and possible bruising at the injection sites for 24–48 hours. You can return to work the same day. Avoid hair products for 24 hours.
How it feels
The blood draw is a quick scratch. Numbing makes the scalp injections comfortable for most clients; you feel pressure rather than pain.
Aftercare
No hair washing for 24 hours. No swimming, sauna or vigorous exercise for 48 hours. Avoid hair colour, bleach or harsh styling products for 7 days.
Results visible
Reduced shedding usually within 4–8 weeks; visible thickening over 3–6 months
How long they last
With a maintenance session every 6–9 months, results sustain. Stopping leads to gradual return to baseline.
Is this right for you?
A good fit if
- You have early to moderate thinning and still have follicles in the area
- You're prepared to commit to a course of 4 sessions and ongoing maintenance
- You want a treatment that uses your own biology, with no foreign substances
Not the right time if
- You're pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have a blood disorder, are on anticoagulants without medical clearance, or have a platelet abnormality
- You have advanced baldness with little follicular activity (a transplant consultation may be the right route)
- You have an active scalp infection, severe seborrheic dermatitis, or recent significant scalp inflammation
- You have a history of certain cancers — please discuss with us and your medical team

FAQs
How many sessions before I see a difference?
Most clients report reduced shedding within the first 4 to 8 weeks. Visible thickening usually develops over 3 to 6 months. The starting course is four sessions, four weeks apart — judging earlier than that is judging too soon.
Is it painful?
The blood draw is a quick scratch — no worse than a routine blood test. Scalp injections are made comfortable with topical numbing; most clients describe pressure rather than pain. It's well-tolerated.
Will it work for me?
PRP works best for early to moderate thinning where the follicles are still alive. For advanced bald areas where the follicles have miniaturised or died, PRP cannot regrow what isn't there. We'll be honest at consultation about what you can realistically expect.
How long do results last?
With maintenance sessions every 6 to 9 months, results sustain over years. Without maintenance, the underlying hair-loss process resumes and density gradually returns to its baseline.
Can I combine it with other hair-loss treatments?
Yes — many clients combine PRP with topical minoxidil, oral finasteride/dutasteride (where prescribed and appropriate), and polynucleotide injections. We discuss your full plan in consultation.
What about after a hair transplant?
PRP is increasingly used as a supportive treatment after transplants, both to improve graft survival in the weeks after surgery and to maintain density in surrounding native hair. We'd liaise with your transplant surgeon's recommended timeline.
